Fungsi Crankshaft, Cara Kerja & Ciri Kerusakannya

As a car owner, you should know the function of the crankshaft, how it works, and the signs of its damage so that you can perform the appropriate maintenance. As is known, the crankshaft is also a component that needs to be monitored and maintained regularly and periodically.

If this is ignored, the car's performance will become less optimal. Let's take a look at the review below so you can understand the crankshaft even better.

Function of the Crankshaft in Cars

The crankshaft is one of the components that plays an important role in optimizing the car's performance. This component is located at the bottom of the engine cylinder and functions as a converter of piston movement. With the crankshaft, the up-and-down motion of the piston is converted into rotational movement. This rotational movement is then used to drive other components such as the flywheel for better optimization.

In addition, the crankshaft also has another function, which is to transmit energy from the timing belt to open the engine valves. The rotational movement of the crankshaft also supports the electrical system in the car. Thus, several components of the car's electrical system, such as power steering, car lights, and the AC compressor, can function optimally.

The crankshaft also serves as an informant for the car ECU in several aspects. This includes RPM levels, crankshaft rotation angles, and information on when to ignite and inject fuel. This function is specifically for cars that use fuel injection technology

How the Crankshaft Works

The crankshaft has a rather complex working mechanism. This component operates when the combustion process in the engine's combustion chamber occurs. This combustion process creates an expansion that can be utilized as engine energy. This expansion will push the piston down.

This condition will be utilized by the crankshaft to convert the up-and-down motion of the piston into rotational motion. This rotational movement will then be used to optimally drive the flywheel. For the flywheel to move optimally, the crankshaft requires assistance from other components such as the small end, piston rod, and big end.

Signs of a Damaged Crankshaft

Given the important function of the crankshaft, knowing the signs of damage to this component is very important. This way, you can take appropriate action when these signs of damage appear. Here are the signs of crankshaft damage that you need to know.

1. Noisy sounds

The first sign of a damaged crankshaft can be identified by the emergence of noisy sounds from inside the car's engine. This noise will certainly reduce your comfort while driving as it becomes noise pollution.

2. Engine vibration

The second sign is that the car's engine vibrates when the car is moving. This condition is caused by a damaged crankshaft.

3. The car loses performance at high speeds

The third sign is that the car's engine will experience a decrease in performance when maneuvering. This condition can be clearly felt when the car is moving at high speeds. The car feels sluggish and slightly stutters.

In general, damage to the crankshaft is caused by factors such as age, engine leaks, and the use of low-quality lubricants. To avoid these conditions, it is advisable to regularly check the crankshaft component.

If some of the signs above appear in your car, it is best to take your car to a Daihatsu workshop immediately. At this workshop, you will receive excellent service, as it is handled by professional staff, equipped with capable repair tools, and original spare parts.
