The handbrake of a car is a quite important part of a car. Without this part, the car's braking system will not function optimally. In fact, the handbrake is often used as a safe method when someone is learning to drive.

However, before you learn to drive and quickly understand it, it is advisable to first know the types of handbrakes available in the car. This way, you can make better use of the brakes while driving.

Three Types of Handbrakes

The types of car handbrakes consist of three types, each with its own tasks and functions. Previously, the handbrake was known as a parking brake, which, when used, will automatically stop the moving car. Here are the three types of car handbrakes.

1. Stick Brake

The stick brake is a type of brake that is frequently used by car drivers. The way to use it is simply by pressing the button located at the end of the lever to release it.

2. Pedal Brake

The pedal brake is the handbrake for automatic cars, where the driver just needs to step on the pedal firmly and step on it again to release it.

3. Button Brake

For the button brake type, the driver must press a button so that the lever can rise by itself. However, this type of brake is not widely used by car manufacturers, making it rarely used.

Once you know the various types of car handbrakes, you can adjust which car you want to use. This way, you will feel more comfortable while driving.

Causes of Handbrake Jam

Not all the time is the car handbrake in good condition. There are times when the brake experiences issues such as jamming. If this happens, it will certainly be very disruptive for you. Therefore, you need to know the causes of the car handbrake jamming, so you do not have to experience such an unpleasant situation. Here are several causes of a car handbrake jam, including:

1. Pulling the handbrake too hard

The first cause of why your car handbrake suddenly jams is that you pulled the handbrake lever too hard. Even that pull exceeds the threshold of the gears inside. If you pull it slowly and not too hard, this situation will not occur.

2. The lever cannot be returned after being pulled

The next cause of your car handbrake jamming is that the handbrake lever cannot be returned after being pulled. If the driver is a woman or someone who does not understand how it works, it will certainly panic anyone. Therefore, it is essential for you to recognize the causes of the jammed car handbrake.

3. Using the handbrake for a long time

Using the handbrake for a long time is highly discouraged. Especially if the terrain has puddles of water or floods. This condition can lead to rust, and that rust can stick to the brake and be difficult to release.

4. Unable to distinguish between manual and automatic handbrakes

Four-wheeled vehicles like cars have two types of transmissions, namely manual and automatic. Both have different ways of using the handbrake. The cause of the car handbrake jamming could be due to the driver being unable to distinguish between the two transmissions, leading to frequent misuse and resulting in the handbrake not functioning as it should.

How to Fix a Jammed Handbrake

If the explanation above has described the causes of a jammed handbrake in a car, then you also need to know how to fix it. Because it is possible that the car handbrake jams in an area or place far from crowds or you may not understand it well. This way, you can find a solution to the problem.

1. Slowly pull the handbrake

If the first cause of the handbrake often jamming is due to the driver pulling it too hard, then the solution is to pull the handbrake slowly. Do not pull the handbrake too hard, so the car handbrake will not jam.

2. Return the lever that cannot be pulled

To return the lever that cannot be pulled, you need to use extra force. You must lift the handbrake lever very strongly and quickly lower it. By doing this, the handbrake will return to normal as it was.

3. Do not use the handbrake for a long time

If in certain conditions or terrains such as roads flooded with water due to floods, it is not advisable for you to use the handbrake for a long time. You can use foot brakes only to avoid unstable roads. This way, the car handbrake will be safely maintained so that it will not jam when needed.

4. Must understand manual and automatic handbrakes

In the third paragraph above, three types of handbrakes that you can use have been explained. Two of them are commonly used in car manufacturing, namely for manual and automatic transmissions. Among the two, you must understand how to use them, where for manual transmission the handbrake used is the stick brake, while for automatic transmission it is the pedal brake.
